StepWay Engineer is a module of the StepWay Suite. This Suite is designed to ensure the management of technical documents (descriptive and applicable) throughout the Life Cycle of an industrial installation.

StepWay Engineer which is complementary to Documentum, allows the user to create, update, and consult a technical document database during the Engineering phase of an industrial project. This module can be used either by the Engineering team or by the Owner Project team.

StepWay Engineer Benefits

Management Coherency : A unique tool is used in order to ensure the management of technical data and documents, both electronic and paper; as well as Engineering documents and Vendor documents.

Power and Simplicity of Search : A user interface allows multi-criteria searches adapted to the Engineering phase.

Improved Traceability : The module is capable of saving a record of the actions connected to the receipt and diffusion of documents (transmittal).

Simplification of Hand Over : The integration of StepWay Engineer in the StepWay Suite, and its compatibility with StepWay Operator, ensures a smooth transfer of the document database during Hand Over.

Up-to-Date Documentation : Each project participant accesses the same version of a document, since the latest version is given by default.

StepWay Engineer, intended for the Engineering phase, can be used independently of, or in combination with the StepWay Commissioning module (designed to manage technical documents associated with commissioning), the StepWay Operator module (intended for the Operators and Maintenance personnel), Hyperviewer (allowing document image browsing) and XML Interface/IndeXML (designed for automated database population). StepWay Finder allows the creation and use of a CD-ROM to dispatch read-only versions of a total or partial Docbase.

StepWay Engineer's "Documents search" user interface has been designed according to Engineering needs:

  • Complete search criteria.
  • Oriented "Project Organization" (allowing users to carry out complex queries, on one or several project criteria) with or without wildcards :

    - Contract - Transmittal
    - Department - Supplier
    - Progress - Date of Issue, etc.

  • Storage and reuse of pre-defined customized queries relative to the context.

    Examples :
"What is the list of documents of contract number "AST 10 354" with 100% progress ?" "What is the percentage of due Vendor documents delivered to the project team?"
"What documents were attached to the transmittal associated to document "PID67915651100301011"?"
"What "Electrical" documents were issued in a new version between March and April?"

StepWay Engineer is designed to store information in a Docbase with or without document contents. In either case, StepWay Engineer ensures the management of "document characteristics" :

  • Technical classification based on parameterized multi-criteria.
  • Tags Numbers (Equipment, Instrument, Pipe Line, Cable, etc.).
  • Document references (Engineering, Operator, Supplier), versions, dates and uniqueness of each reference.
  • Common characteristics such as title, size, format, author, physical location (for paper documents: bookcase, shelf, etc.).

Other StepWay Engineer functions allow :

  • Storage of comments on a document (even if no image is associated with the text). These comments may be enriched by graphic annotations (when an image exists, if Hyperviewer is combined with StepWay Engineer).
  • Tracking the reception and diffusion of electronic and/or paper documents through the management of transmittals.
  • Monitoring the progress of the project documentation in the entire database, or on a section of the database. The progress is calculated, keeping in mind the importance of the document.
    Example :
"What is the progress of the Documentation that concerns equipment "AST 10 354" ?"

  • Extraction of document and database lists.
